Darren Tidwell

Violinist Darren Tidwell began his musical studies at the age of 11 in Lake Jackson, TX with the help of his mother, a pianist and cellist. Darren attended college at the University of Houston and was awarded a Bachelor of Music Performance while studying violin with Fredell Lack.

Darren has played with or been a member of many of Houston’s music groups, including the Bach Society of Houston, Baytown Symphony, Houston Sinfonietta, and Woodlands Symphony. He is currently the Concertmaster of the Brazosport Symphony (since 1994) and was also Concertmaster of the Galveston Symphony from 1996-2000.

Darren is also a music educator, something that he enjoys immensely. He is currently orchestra co-director at Stratford High School and serves as the upper-strings specialist. Prior to teaching there, he established a strings program in Galveston ISD and also brought the Humble MS orchestra up to a Sweepstakes winning level.

When not performing or teaching, you may find him recording concerts. He is a highly sought after recording engineer for schools and church choirs. Darren is also a very active member of Houston’s Second Baptist Church and Orchestra.
